After owning my Pro-Ject Debut Carbon for seven yours I decided to purchase both the aluminium sub platter and the acrylic platter. I also upgraded my cartridge (nothing expensive and quite like the carts that come pre installed these days). The turntable now has a lot more of that liquidy, smooth character that vinyl is known for.
Looking back I should have done this a lot sooner. It seems to me that the platter and subplatter upgrades are about as optional as the speaker stands are for the Wharfedale Linton. Which is to say they’re not really optional. The turntable seems designed to have these components from the get go.
I do think Pro-Ject should include them with the table, especially since the price for one has gone up quite a lot since I bought it.
